Create a Works Order

Works orders are created from composite products (products with a parts list) that are not flat-pack products.

  • A composite product is added to a sales order.
  • The works order is built from the sales order.
  • The works order is then processed, to bring the parts together as one product (which may include assembly or packaging). That product can then be fulfilled.

There are four ways to create a works order.

Creating a Works Order from a Sales Order

Composite product – build a works order for a sales order line.

  1. Select the order line, click Parts List tab, then click Build.

Composite product with Auto-build selected – build works orders for a sales order containing auto-build composite products.

The following two methods depend on the user option Show Build Works Order button on SORD.

  1. When selected, the Build WO button is shown in the sales order toolbar. Click Build WO and a works order is created.
  2. When cleared, the Build WO button is not shown. Close the sales order. When the order is closed, a works order is created.

Creating a Works Order from the Works Order Daybook

  1. Works orders are not usually created by clicking Add on the Works Order daybook, and building the order line-by-line, although it is possible to do this. The daybook is better used to open works order to inspect them.

Changing How Many Works Orders Are Created

Works orders can be created:

  • One works order for the whole sales order, or;
  • One works order for each composite product line.

This setting is changed with the company option Works order generated by SORD.

Linked Documents

The part lines on a works order are linked to the build line on the same works order. This lets you write reports to track works orders. To display linked documents in Horizon:

  1. Open the works order.
  2. Right-click the line you want to view and from the context menu, click Show linked documents.
